At Better Builds we’re dedicated to our ideals of clear communication, quality, personal and professional excellence and a belief that good building and renovation can make a happy home.

Better Builds is a different type of building business. We are committed to clear communication and a friendly approach. Our team of employees and colleagues are all handpicked to share our ideals. In fact we’d like to think that the team at Better Builds is what makes us exceptional. The expertise and camaraderie of our managers, builders, carpenters, decorators and office staff are the most important tools we bring to your project.

Our Process

We’re committed to your project running as smoothly as possible and are ready to talk you through every step of your project.

1. Introduction

Give the office a call and Olivia will set up a convenient time for Tom to visit you to discuss your project. Don’t worry what stage you’re at; be it initial ideas that still need sketching out or a clear vision with an architect plan already in place. It’s a chance to get to know one another, talk about ideas and Tom is happy to give any advice you need.

2. Strategise

We head back to the office, and Tom along with Graham our estimator go through the notes from the meeting and transform them into a detailed, easy to understand, quote that clearly defines the scope of work.

3. Review

We araange to meet up with you for a second meeting to review the quote. At this stage we’re very happy to discuss any changes to the design or budget. It’s a chance to hear your feedback, answer your concerns and look at the design and plans in more depth. It might take more than one meeting but we’re happy to talk to you as much as it takes before the project starts, as it is time well spent.

4. Start Project

After everyone is agreed and contracts have been signed (where necessary), we’ll arrange for tools and materials to be delivered, and set up the site. We compile a site pack, which includes all the vital stuff; quote, drawings, project contact sheet, and work schedule so everyone is clear and has a point of reference. The Better Builds golden rule is to finish every day with a clean and orderly site- keeping the site safe and organised.

5. Communicate

Throughout your job we enjoy keeping you in the loop. It’s important that Tom, the office and the principle guys on site, keep you updated on the progress by scheduling regular site meetings.

6. Completion

Before we give you the scissors to cut the ribbon on your new home, Tom will review the project with you as it nears completion, making sure that all tasks have been fulfilled and we’ve achieved everything expected.

7. Finish

We pride ourselves on the finishing touches and are happy to claim that our attention to detail is what puts us ahead of the rest.

"We are all constructed out of our self dialogue."

Jane & Andy, Hove

We have had Better Builds in our home for over a year, firstly to rebuild the front bay windows, and then to undertake our loft conversion. They have a very high standard of workmanship and excellent communication throughout the process. You could talk through any details of the work, big or small, and they were happy to advise or revisit if required. Always polite and ever-mindful of the intrusion of building work in our lives, each team member was a credit to Better Builds. We’d highly recommend their services

"Create with the heart; build with the mind."

Michael & Karen, Hove

Ben and all the people from Better Builds were extremely reliable, conscientious, polite, courteous and very hard working. The end result of this work is fantastic. We could not have imagined a better finish. Better Builds have been very conscientious about producing a very high-quality build. We are delighted. Not only that, the build finished early and within the budget estimated. Superior builders.

Transparency throughout the process is our golden rule. It’s a method to avoid the, sadly all too common, situation where the customer feels let down, frustrated, or even ripped off by the build running significantly over time and budget.

A builder who offers a vague, or ‘too good to be true’ quote, leaves you wide open for disappointment, as inevitable ‘add-ons’ made at the end can blow your original quote alarmingly out of the water. We avoid this by providing you with a very detailed quote from the outset, itemised right down to last skirting board. This not only provides you with a shopping list of building details to choose from but also means that throughout the build it is very clear to both parties if something is additional to the quote or indeed if something has not been required and therefore should be omitted from the final bill.

We view having full respect for your home, as well as maintaining good relations with your neighbours, an essential consideration. All members of our team have been personally handpicked by Tom, so as well as being the best in the trade, they share the Better Builds ideals which you can rely on.

We are proud members of FMB the Federation of Master Builders and as further insurance no person/business can become a FMB member if they have ever been bankrupt or have any CCJ’s against them. We don’t ask for unreasonable sums of money up front so you can have the pleasure of watching your extension rise out of the ground without the uncertainty that you’ve got a bunch of cowboys loose in your house.

Our Green Ideas

You can count on us to do our bit to keep it Green, at no extra cost to you or the environment.

At Better Builds we believe that all good businesses must be environmentally aware. That’s why we’re committed to finding ways to minimize impact on the environment through our building practices, along with using sustainable products and materials where possible. We think Green in our day-to-day practices, from the paper we use in our office to our principles on recycling and reusing materials on site. For example is a great resource that we use to offer up your unwanted but useable items, such as an old kitchen or bathroom suite, to a new home, rather than heading for landfill. We employ Green Acre recycling services to collect and recycle all our building waste and we use sustainable timber in all aspects of construction.

We’re also very open to talk to you about energy efficient building practices and specialist products and materials that can be used in your project.
